What is Regex Tester?

A regex tester lets you write a regular expression and immediately see what it matches in a sample text. Matches and capture groups are highlighted as you type, which makes complex patterns much easier to get right.

Useful for

  • Validating formats such as e-mails, dates or phone numbers.
  • Extracting values from logs with capture groups.
  • Building search-and-replace patterns for your editor.

How to use

  1. Type the pattern and choose flags such as g, i or m.
  2. Paste the text you want to test.
  3. Review the highlighted matches and the list of capture groups.

Frequently asked questions

Which regex flavor does it use?

The JavaScript engine of your browser, so the results match what your JavaScript or TypeScript code will do.

Why does my pattern find only the first match?

Without the g (global) flag, a JavaScript regex stops at the first match. Turn on g to see all of them.
